Müzikte farklı kültürlerden birikimi olanların tek bir dil yaratmasını sağlayacak güç var. Hollandalı piyanist Rogier Telderman, Fransız çellist Vincent Courtois ve Polonyalı kemancı Adam Bałdych, Avrupa müziğinin emsalsiz yapısını her saniyesinde hissedebileceğiniz dinamik ve mütemadi tekrarlara dayalı kurgusuyla söze gerek bırakmayacak güzellikte "Clouds" isimli albüme imza atmışlar.

Grubun ilk bir araya gelişi Hollanda Breda’da Şubat 2018’de Avrupa’nın yeni soundlarına ev sahipliği yapan ismiyle müsemma ‘Sounds of Europe Festival’ içerisinde gerçekleşmiş. Ekip ilk defa konserden bir gün önce provada buluşmuş. Ortak saygı, ortak dinleme ve birlikte tecrübe ederek gelişme mottosunu ceplerine koyan grup beraber daha sık konser vermek için sözleşmişler. Üç farklı lider karakterli müzisyen birbirlerini farklı yönlere çekerek ilerletmeye başladıkça bu geliştirici uzlaşmacı mücadelenin daha da keyfine varmaya başlamışlar. 2019 Aralık ayında Fransa’da La Buissonne Studios’da gerçekleşen iki günlük kayıt sonrası da bu albüm meydana gelmiş.

Albüm notlarına göz attığımda “Çellist Vincent Courtois için keman, çello ve piyanonun enstrümantal kombinasyonu olumlu çağrışımlara sahip” bölümü dikkatimi çekiyor. Courtois, Yirmili yaşların sonunda The New Jazz Meeting at Baden-Baden’de kemancı Dominique Pifarély ve piyanist Joachim Kühn’le beraber çalmak için davet edilmiş. Bu tecrübeyi şu sözlerle açıklıyor. “Birden doğaçlama müzik ve büyük bir sesle gerçek çello müziği çalmaya başladım, klasik müzikteki gibiydi. Bakış açımı değiştirdi. Her şeyi karıştırmaya ve sadece bir caz çellisti değil tam bir çello sanatçısı olmaya başladım." Yirmi yıl sonra bu albümde harika lirik bir anlayışa sahip, gerçek bir otorite olarak yer aması dinleyici için büyük şans.

Geçmişin virtüöz kemancıları neredeyse pek çok nota çalmaya mahkum edilirken, modern sanatta bir virtüözden çok farklı taleplerde bulunuluyor: Bu durumu Bałdych "farklı ruh hallerinde yaşamak - her notanın kendi hikayesi olmasını sağlamak," diye açıklıyor. Yani prensipte “az ve öz” diyebileceğimiz ama bu öze de bir anlam yükleyebilme erdemi diye ifade edebiliriz. “Bu albümde hiç olmadığı kadar az çalmak istedim.”diyor. İfade ekonomisine yönelik bu eğilim, albümün açılışından itibaren açıkça görülüyor. Bałdych’in "Clouds" bestesi yansıtıcı, kişisel ve samimi. Bu, aynı zamanda Polonyalı besteciler Karol Szymanowski ve Grazyna Bacewicz gibi kemanistlerin oda müziğini andıran hassas bir ses dünyasıdır. Derin bir melankoli sezinlenir, ama onun içinde belirli bir tür umut ve iyimserlik, ileriye gitme ve akış yaratma arzusu da vardır. Bu karmaşık denklemi çözebilecek yegane isim ise Adam Bałdych’tir.

Rogier Telderman aynı zamanda albümün prodüktörlüğünü de üstleniyor. Klasik müzik köklerinin üzerine, dolaysız fikirlerini berrak bir söyleyişle ifade edebilme yetisine sahip “tabi ki geri planda hoş bir caz hissiyatını da algılayabiliyorsunuz. Hollanda’da tanınmış bir piyanist ve bu kaydının kendisini Avrupa müziği sahnesinde daha geniş kitlere taşıyabilecek bir kayıt olduğu su götürmez.

Trio’nun bir araya gelişlerinde meydana gelen müzikteki güçlü formal yapı ölçülü ve çoşkulu ifade biçimi ile albümü meraklılar için tekrar tekrar dinlenilebilir kılıyor. Hem güncel yenilikleri benimseyen (çağcıl) hem de geleneksel akustik tabanlı Avrupa müziği severlerin keyifle dinleyebilecekleri bir kayıt olduğunu düşünüyorum.

Son olarak dinlediği müziği fiziksel kopyalar ile sahne yaratmayı tercih edenler için bir not. Takipçileri ACT Music firmasının ECM’e oranla berraklıktan ziyade daha parlak kayıtlar almayı tercih ettiğini bilirler. Bu kayıtta bahsi aynı prensiple diğer ACT kayıtları gibi Almanya’da imal edilmiş, doyuruculuğu yüksek ve referans dinlemelerinizde kullanabileceğiniz türden bir dinamik içeriğe sahip.

Three different musical disciplines, one common language

Music has the power to enable people from different cultures to create a single language. Dutch pianist Rogier Telderman, French cellist Vincent Courtois and Polish violinist Adam Bałdych have created an album that leaves no need to speak, with a dynamic and continuous repetition where you can feel the unique structure of European music at every second. “Clouds” was released on October 25th under the ACT Music label.

The first meeting of the group took place in Breda, the Netherlands, in February 2018, in the "Sounds of Europe Festival", with its name hosting the fresh sounds of Europe. The team met in a rehearsal a day before their festival debut. Putting the motto of shared respect, common listening and developing by experiencing together, the group has intended to play more often and work together more often. As the musicians of three different leading characters began to advance by pulling each other in different directions, they started to enjoy this developmental rationalist struggle even more. After two days of recording at ‘La Buissonne Studios in France in December 2019, this brilliantly shiny album was recorded.

For cellist Vincent Courtois, the instrumental combination of violin, cello and piano has very positive connotations” when I saw his thoughts the albums liner notes this part catches my attention. Courtois was invited to play with violinist Dominique Pifarély and pianist Joachim Kühn at The New Jazz Meeting at Baden-Baden in his late 20s. and he explains this experience with the following words. “I suddenly started to play improvised music and real cello music with a big sound like in the classical music. It changed my point of view. I started to mix everything and to be a complete cello player and not just a jazz cellist. “Two decades later, it's a great chance for the listener that he has played in this album with his true authority and a wonderful lyrical sense.

While virtuoso violinists of the past are almost doomed to play many notes, modern art demands very different from the virtuoso: "To live in different moods - to make each note have its own story," explains Bałdych. In other words, we can say "less is more“ in principle, but it is the virtue of being able to attribute a meaning to this essence. “I wanted to play less than ever on this album,” he says. That tendency towards economy of expression is clear from the very opening of the album. Bałdych's composition "Clouds" is reflective, personal and sincere. It is a delicate sound world re- calling the chamber music of Polish composers who were also violi- nists such as Karol Szymanowski and Grazyna Bacewicz. A deep melancholy is perceived, but there is also a certain kind of hope and optimism in it, a desire to move forward and create flow. The only person who can solve this complex equation is Adam Bałdych.

Rogier Telderman is also the producer of the album. Having the ability to express his sincerly direct ideas with a clear utterance over his classical music roots. “of course you can also perceive a pleasant jazz feeling in the background of his playing.” He is a very well-known pianist in Holland, and no doubt about it this recording will most probably carry him to a wider audience on the European music scene.

The strong formal structure of the music that occurs during the trio's chemistry enthusiastic expression make the album listenable again and again for the enthusiasts. I think it is a recording that both adopting contemporary innovations (contemporary) and traditional acoustic-based European music lovers can enjoy.

Finally, a note for record lovers. Most of jazz lovers know that ACT Music company prefers to get brighter recordings rather than clarity than ECM recordings. This recording is based on the same principle as other ACT recordings, produced in Germany, has a highly satisfying and dynamic content that you can use in your reference listening.
